Celebrities Under Pressure |
The Moment of Truth was a game show based on the Japanese format Happy Family Plan that was produced by London Weekend Television and was broadcast on ITV from 5 September 1998 to 29 September 2001. It was hosted by Cilla Black. A similar show, Celebrities Under Pressure followed two years after The Moment of Truth ended. The format was strikingly similar, except that celebrities partook in challenges on behalf of the family, rather than a family member.
Formats
Series 1
Each week, 3 families would get a chance to win fabulous prizes from Cilla's "Dream Directory". These would typically be cars, holidays, televisions etc. and each member of the family would pick a prize that they wanted. However, to earn the prize, one member of the family, usually Mum or Dad but occasionally an older child, has to perform a very tricky task. This could typically include difficult tasks such as, playing the complete works of Beethoven, Juggling 10 skittles at once, or attempting to peel a potato. If they chopped their hand off and drew blood, they would lose everything. Absolutely everything. They are given seven days to practice it, but when they arrive at the studio the next week they have one chance (and one chance only) to get it "right on the night". If they do, they win the prizes they chose. If they don't, they lose the prizes they chose.
Series 2
Series 2 introduced an instant task element where members of the audience could have one go at a simple skill task (hitting a skittle over with a ball) for the chance to win one thousand pounds (£1000).
